SIGNIFICANT TREES COMMENTS FORM

The I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge Project has identified seven (7) significant trees that are planned for removal. The landscaping plan includes 195 total trees to be planted, replacing the significant trees at nearly a 28:1 ratio.

 

The following species to be planted include: 

  • Drummond Red Maple (Acer rubrum drummondii),

  • Crape Myrtle species (Lagerstroemia indica and Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei),

  • Tulip Tree (Liriodendron tulipifera),

  • Southern Magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora),

  • Shumard Red Oak (Quercus shumardii),

  • Southern Live Oak (Quercus virginiana), and

  • Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichum)

 

A commitment was made to obtain feedback from the community regarding the mitigation plan for replacing significant trees. Tree planting plans are in development. Crape myrtles are a non-native species and considered a decorative tree. In addition to the trees listed above, Crape myrtles are also being considered and may be included as part of the landscaping. This notice allows you to submit comments on the mitigation plan for the removal of the existing trees. Comments will be accepted until XXXXX via the methods listed on the reverse side.
