1930
This drawbridge was a step up from the ferry system, but it still caused bottlenecks for marine and vehicle traffic.

1949
It took several years to complete the current Calcasieu River Bridge, which opened in 1952.

1950
The first concrete pour of the project was noted in the local newspaper.

Old & New 1950s
The current bridge was built to handle 37,000 vehicles a day, more than three times the previous bridge's daily traffic of 12,000.

The bridge was immortalized in a postcard as part of U.S. 90, before the bridge was added to the interstate highway system.
